Giersbach makes paintings, murals, and public art works that deal primarily with ideas of pictorial space and location. Works have been exhibited at venues including Roebling Hall, Sandroni Rey, Deitch Projects, White Columns, Wave Hill, Galerie Faurschou (Copenhagen), Galerie Asbaek (Copenhagen), Museo Rufino Tamayo (Mexico City), and Kunsthalle Nurnberg (Nurnberg). Public art works are located in New York, New Jersey, and Florida, and include a mosaic ceiling commissioned by the MTA on the L line in Brooklyn. Educated at Vassar College (BA), Rutgers University (MFA), and the Skowhegan School, Giersbach has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Vassar College, and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. Residencies include Cite Internationale des Arts, Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dalasen, and The MacDowell Colony.
