I’m Sorry. I Can’t Remember Your Name. / There is Only A Queer Dis-Satisfaction

$40.00

2022
laser engraved metal tag, pill bottle, letter from the artist
2 1/2 x 1 1/8 in.
Edition: 7

The text on the front of the tag reads “I’m sorry. I can’t remember your name.”, which is something Jones finds himself saying often. The quote on the back of the tag comes from the 1991 biography Martha: The Life and Work of Martha Graham by dancer and choreographer Agnes de Mille. It arose in a conversation that de Mille had with Graham about artistic success and whether an artist can truly be satisfied. The full text of that conversation is best experienced within the context of de Mille’s biography of Graham. But here, on Jones’ tag, given the available space, it is abbreviated to “There is only a queer divine dis-satisfaction.” Packaged in a used pill bottle, with a letter from Jones and a numbered certificate. Chain not included.
